Footwear

Assessment and Fitting

Why do we need footwear assessments?

Footwear varies in shapes and sizes, presenting a challenge in finding the perfect pair that suits both you and your feet. When trying on shoes, several factors related to your own feet come into play, determining whether a shoe is suitable or not.

  1. It's crucial to be aware of your arch type—whether you have flat arches (pes planus), normal arches, or high arches (pes cavus)—as the depth of the shoes significantly impacts comfort.

  2. Additionally, understanding if your ankles pronate (roll in), supinate (roll out), or maintain a neutral position is essential, influencing the level of support required.

  3. The width of the shoe is another critical factor in achieving a well-fitting shoe; excessive width diminishes support, while insufficient width can lead to skin irritation and restricted joint movement.

What should I expect during a footwear assessment?

History:
Initially, we will engage in a discussion about any discomfort or issues you may be encountering both within and outside of footwear.

Posture:
We will evaluate your foot and ankle posture while standing and walking. For those engaged in sports, an assessment of posture during relevant movements for the specific sport will also be conducted.

Foot Type Analysis:
Determining whether you pronate, supinate, or maintain a neutral position, as well as assessing whether your feet are narrow, standard, or wide.

Review of Current Shoes:
A comprehensive examination of your current shoes, including an analysis of wear patterns on the soles. Gait analysis will be performed if you have multiple pairs of shoes.

Shoe Recommendations:
After considering all aspects of your lifestyle, work, and sports activities, we will provide recommendations for specific brands, styles, or footwear stores that we believe will offer you the most benefits.
