Fungal Nails

Get the right treatment and care for your fungal nails.

Thickened and discoloured nails can indicate dermatological disease, trauma, nutritional deficiency or medication issues within the body. Our team of expert podiatrists will assess your affected nails, obtain a mycology laboratory sample, and can confirm whether or not there is a fungal infection.

If an infection is found, we can use oral medication or other treatments, in conjunction with topical antifungal tinctures to thin the nail plate and help to resolve the issue.

A podiatrist can provide specialised care for fungal nail infections, which includes:

  • Assessment and diagnosis

  • Effective intervention and treatment (including PACT)

  • Prevention through ongoing care

Pact Treatment for fungal nails is something we use at Foot Wellbeing to help our patient’s correct infections, without the need for invasive or painful interventions and may be beneficial for you, depending on your diagnosis and the treatment required.

PACT is an abbreviation that stands for Photodynamic Antimicrobial Therapy. With this method, bacteria, viruses and fungi can be killed off effectively on skin surfaces and nails without pain. Microorganisms including bacteria, viruses and fungi all possess a cell wall, whereas typical human cells only have a cell membrane.

Upon application of the PACT Fungal Nail Gel, the dye selectively targets the fungal cell walls making them sensitive to light. The fungal cells can then be destroyed upon exposure to light of a specific wavelength. This results in a chemical reaction that kills targeted cells without harming healthy tissue.

Our clinic is highly successful in assisting patients of all ages with fungal nail infections, in a quick and effective way, as well as assisting them with monitoring, managing and maintaining good foot health, and helping to reduce the risk of recurring infections.

We are committed to the health and wellbeing of our patients and are always available to speak with our patients, and provide detailed care plans, and answer all of your questions and address any concerns you may have.

Put your best foot forward.
